Description

We are delighted to invite you to the National Hydrogen Summit. This inaugural two-day event is to be held in Leeds with the support of both Leeds City Council and the University of Leeds. The hydrogen economy is vital to the decarbonisation of the whole UK energy system, but the voice of gas has been underrepresented in the national debate.

The ambition is to bring together key stakeholders from across the sector to develop a cohesive voice for hydrogen, leading to a coherent policy position that can be widely supported. In addition to gas distribution networks and those directly involved with hydrogen technologies, the summit will be of particular interest to:

  • Investors and analysts
  • Engineering Consultancies
  • Academics and Policy Makers
  • Equipment manufacturers
  • Energy and transport economists
  • Industry bodies and commentators
  • Senior Transport Planners
  • Sustainability Officers
  • Economic Development Officers
  • Local Enterprise Partnerships

Holding the summit over two days allows us to address the key issues with real focus and to cover the range of hydrogen projects from across the United Kingdom. You are welcome to join us on either or both days:

Day 1: Research, Innovation and Demonstration

Thursday 27th June 2019, 9:30-16:45
Cloth Hall Court, Quebec Street, Leeds LS1 2HA

Day 1 will focus on research, innovation and demonstration of both challenges and opportunities. We will learn from recent and ongoing projects, hear about specific challenges faced by industry and other stakeholders and identify the research and innovation required to implement the transition in a fair and equitable way. Key speakers include:

  • Councillor Judith Blake – Leader of Leeds City Council
  • Jon Saltmarsh – Head of Technical Energy Analysis, BEIS
  • Mark Horsley – Chief Executive, Northern Gas Networks
  • Professor Phil Blyth – Chief Scientific Adviser, Department for Transport

Day 2: Policy and Implementation

Friday 28th June 2019, 9:30-16:00
Leeds Civic Hall, Calverley St, Leeds LS1 1UR

Day 2 will have a focus on the policy and regulatory environment required to successfully implement projects. We will build on the outputs from Day 1 and look at the role for different key stakeholders including local authorities, LEPs and combined authorities. We will also explore how best to maximise economic and social benefits at both a local and national scale. There will also be a showcase of hydrogen vehicles. Key speakers include:

  • Rachel Reeves MP – Chair, House of Commons BEIS select committee
  • Ben Houchen – Mayor of Tees Valley Combined Authority
  • David Smith – CEO of the Energy Networks Association
  • Tony Green – Head of Engineering and Asset Management at National Grid

Please do consider joining us at an event that will help pull together a cohesive voice at this time of change and opportunity. We hope that this Summit will be first of many and that future years will be hosted by other locations connected to this emerging economy. In the meantime we look forward to welcoming you to Leeds on the 27-28 June.
